Ahmet Turan \u00d6zdemir, General Manager of ASP\u0130LSAN Enerji, stated that ASP\u0130LSAN\u2019s rail system battery products are used in nearly all vehicles operated by T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s rail system enterprises.<\/p>\n
In a statement to the AA correspondent, \u00d6zdemir provided information regarding the company's battery and energy storage projects, which span a wide range from rail systems to civilian electric vehicles and military platforms.<\/p>\n
Drawing attention to the fact that ASP\u0130LSAN\u2019s rail system battery products are found in nearly all vehicles used by T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s rail system enterprises, \u00d6zdemir stated that the company\u2019s solutions play a critical role, especially in meeting the localization targets of the Metro \u0130stanbul project.<\/p>\n
Stating that localization targets, which could not be met with the core components produced by the existing ecosystem, were achieved through ASP\u0130LSAN solutions, \u00d6zdemir said, \u201cWe have localized the battery issue, which provides a significant percentage of support to the localization rate in financial terms and constitutes a major expense item for these platforms. Currently, ASP\u0130LSAN Enerji is the largest battery manufacturer in T\u00fcrkiye.\u201d<\/p>\n
Expressing that they offer various product types that meet all sector requirements in nickel-cadmium chemistry, \u00d6zdemir noted that sintered nickel-cadmium batteries are generally used in the aviation sector, which demands higher quality, and that they also provide two different solutions: pocket type and fiber type.<\/p>\n
Expressing that fiber-type products are both high in quality and competitive in terms of price, \u00d6zdemir said, \u201cWe generally use fiber-type products in rail system transportation. Along with these, we manufacture solutions in our factory that significantly increase the localization rate and reduce or eliminate energy dependency on platforms. This product has become an expense item that is increasingly needed as the rail system network expands in T\u00fcrkiye.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stating that the battery ecosystem is developing, \u00d6zdemir thanked the Turkish Rail System Utilities Industry Corporation (T\u00dcRASA\u015e), the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), and municipalities for contributing to the development of the railway ecosystem by increasing the localization rate.<\/p>\n
Expressing that their rail system batteries represent an extremely durable product portfolio capable of operating at high and low temperatures and under high track vibrations without being affected by dust, humidity, or water, \u00d6zdemir said, \u201cToday, we produce nickel-cadmium battery solutions up to 1.5 tons needed for large platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stating that they develop various solutions for land, sea, air, and rail system platforms, \u00d6zdemir reported that alongside R&D studies on space batteries, they are conducting a separate research process for the certification of products with higher energy density to be used in rail systems.<\/p>\n
\"Design Center\" Vision for Electric Vehicles<\/strong><\/p>\n Also providing information regarding their capacities for civilian projects such as electric vehicles (EVs) and buses\/minibuses, \u00d6zdemir stated that they currently have battery packs operating on a 65-kilowatt-hour minibus.<\/p>\n Expressing that they can design and manufacture electric vehicle battery prototypes in any desired values and chemistry, \u00d6zdemir said, \u201cHigh-volume mass production requires different investments in electric batteries and vehicle batteries. However, as ASP\u0130LSAN Enerji, we are a company that can design and prototype an electric vehicle battery that any of our customers need in terms of high performance, budget, and safety criteria, along with all testing and certification. We can carry out the entire process here, from design to the development, production, and certification of the pack prototype on a pilot scale.\u201d<\/p>\n Stating that ASP\u0130LSAN Enerji serves as a 'design house' (design center), \u00d6zdemir expressed that they design tailored solutions needed by manned and unmanned ground vehicles and other military platforms, and manufacture customized products based on the future requirements of armies.<\/p>\n Electric Vehicles and Green Transformation in Military Platforms<\/strong><\/p>\n Drawing attention to the increase in electric vehicle solutions on the military side as well, \u00d6zdemir underlined the armies' need for a \"green transformation.\"<\/p>\n Expressing that reducing the carbon footprint in military applications has become a strategic necessity, \u00d6zdemir shared the following information:<\/p>\n \u201cThe carbon footprint, which is currently at 2 percent, will soon climb to around 20 percent if precautions are not taken. This is because we have entered a period where massive investments are being made for military applications everywhere. Countries have increased their spending on a very large scale. Here, one of the most critical components has transformed into devices and robots that operate in a more discrete, more mobile, and more swarming manner in the field. A significant component of these is electric vehicles. We have hybrid storage solutions that prevent the internal combustion engine from running so that vehicles, which are mostly in idle mode, can feed and support the internal grid. However, all of these will be fully electric in the near future.\u201d<\/p>\n Noting that hurdles such as silence, power, shorter charging times, and life extension in military electric vehicles have been overcome with advancing technology, \u00d6zdemir concluded his words as follows:<\/p>\n \u201cWhen we compare and evaluate budget, cost, and performance for projects with substantial budgets, we can deliver the exact product our customers need, precisely how they want it. With advancing technology, we will begin to see more electric vehicles in the future across air, land, and sea in military environments as well.
