Domestic Battery Production Collaboration between Arçelik and ASPİLSAN Enerji

Arçelik, one of the world's leading home technology firms, has joined forces with ASPİLSAN, Turkey's most capable battery design and production company.

Arçelik Turkey General Manager Can Dinçer, ASPİLSAN Enerji General Manager Ferhat Özsoy, Arçelik Deputy General Manager for Marketing Zeynep Yalım Uzun, and ASPİLSAN Enerji Investment Projects Management Office Director Nihat Aksüt attended the signing ceremony of the cooperation between Arçelik and ASPİLSAN in Istanbul.

Arçelik will design and produce joint batteries for small household appliances produced in Turkey with ASPİLSAN as part of the collaboration. ASPİLSAN and Arçelik hope to encourage domestic production and increase the rate of product localisation through this collaboration. The battery design will be carried out for the first time in the electric upright vacuum cleaner, which has the highest domestic manufacturing rate, as part of the collaboration with ASPİLSAN. Following that, domestic production of all Arçelik rechargeable goods will resume.

"We will design and manufacture joint batteries for tiny domestic gadgets made in Turkey," says the company.

In his speech at the signing ceremony, Arçelik Turkey General Manager Can Dinçer stated that the agreement has "moved the two companies' cooperation based on trust and goodwill to a brand new platform," adding, "In this context, we will design and manufacture joint batteries for small household appliances produced in Turkey." The creation and manufacture of these imported items in our nation is a vital step toward the localization of critical components. It will benefit the country's economy and make a substantial contribution by reducing the foreign trade imbalance. We will continue to promote the growth of our industry as Arçelik by increasing the number and scope of such cooperation," he stated.

According to Ferhat Özsoy, General Manager of ASPİLSAN Enerji, they have completed two phases of battery production (Battery Management System-BMS (battery management system) and Battery Pack (battery packing) until now as ASPİLSAN, one of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation's firms. We will also make cells, which is the most significant and valuable phase, and we will employ these generated batteries in Arçelik-developed batteries first. Carbon emissions during transit will be reduced, and energy will be used more efficiently, thanks to our batteries, which will be bundled with locally produced batteries. Furthermore, the batteries that will be manufactured will be small. Our company will be a leader in the usage of domestically made batteries in home appliance battery systems, as well as a solution to our foreign reliance problem."

Arçelik's Deputy General Manager for Marketing, Zeynep Yalım Uzun, stated that the relationship will be very advantageous for both companies, and that localizing production has sustainability benefits as well, since they reduced their carbon footprint by 80% with this project.

Nihat Aksüt, Director of the ASPİLSAN Enerji Investment Projects Management Office, also noted that this initiative is very unique and beneficial for the country, and that the Arçelik brand, which is present at all stages of life, is now on its way to becoming a global brand.

The strategic agreement will be the first stage in a long-term partnership that will progress through mutual "know-how" sharing. It is planned to include companies who make ODM production for Arçelik in Turkey in the future, in addition to Arçelik and ASPİLSAN.
