Ahmet Turan Özdemir, General Manager of ASPİLSAN Enerji, stated that the batteries they produce contribute to reducing the carbon footprint and completing the green transformation.
For 44 years, ASPİLSAN Enerji has been strengthening the defense industry in the energy field while continuing its work for both the defense industry and the private sector by producing Turkey’s first cylindrical lithium-ion batteries.
The factory, which produces environmentally friendly batteries supporting renewable energy sources, is also developing international collaborations with investments aimed at the clean energy market.
The company exports its products to countries such as Germany, France, Poland, and the Netherlands, as well as to Middle Eastern countries, contributing to the national economy.
The Lithium-Ion Battery Production Facility, established in Kayseri in 2022 with an investment of approximately 1.5 billion Turkish Lira, has an annual capacity to produce around 21 million batteries.
Ahmet Turan Özdemir, General Manager of ASPİLSAN Enerji, told an Anadolu Agency reporter that the company, which was established by the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, meets the needs of both the defense industry and the private sector with domestically produced batteries at Turkey's first Cylindrical Lithium-Ion Battery Production Facility.
Özdemir further explained that high-tech battery design projects for the products of ASELSAN, TUSAŞ, and ROKETSAN are carried out at ASPİLSAN’s R&D centers in Kayseri and Ankara, and that critical defense systems are also produced by ASPİLSAN. He added that the company manufactures 300 different products in its facilities.
He emphasized that batteries for various systems, including radios, night vision systems, jamming system batteries, anti-tank system batteries, robotic system batteries used in mine detection and bomb disposal, missile and guidance kit batteries, and anti-torpedo batteries, are also designed by their extensive engineering team.
Özdemir drew attention to their significant achievements in the energy storage field, stating that ASPİLSAN is a global leader in many products, including radios, weapon systems, ammunition, aircraft, helicopters, frigates, rail systems, telecommunications, and space technologies.
Environmentally Friendly Technologies Are Produced with a Green Transformation Theme
Özdemir emphasized the company’s significant efforts to reduce the carbon footprint, stating:
"If this continues, by 2050, one-fifth of the world’s carbon emissions will come from the defense industry. Therefore, with the systems we produce, we are creating technologies that reduce the carbon footprint worldwide and are in harmony with the green transformation theme. In this regard, the lithium-ion batteries, battery packs, and solutions we produce contribute to reducing the carbon footprint and completing the green transformation, creating a more livable world."
He added that the more locally sourced the components of the exported products are, the greater the impact of their sales on closing the country’s current account deficit. "In this regard, the products we make add value in terms of exports," Özdemir said. "In this sense, we are a company that makes significant efforts and achieves results in environmental themes, critical investments, and human resources.
Özdemir concluded by stating that with significant investments, the company will adopt a more environmentally friendly structure, and investments continue in the facility’s reserve areas to produce new, high-quality batteries and cells.
