Domestic Engineering Capability Based on Energy Increases in Drone Technologies

ASPİLSAN Enerji General Manager Özdemir stated, “We aim to create a product portfolio that can meet the needs of drone manufacturers in Türkiye. As of 2026, we target the usage of our products by all domestic drone manufacturers.”

Stating that different drones, such as rotary-wing and fixed-wing, have different energy requirements, Özdemir said that the element that provides aerobatic capability to FPV and kamikaze drones is the power source itself.

Safety designs at the cell and pack level

Pointing out that drones must consume high power to perform aerobatic maneuvers very quickly at high speeds, Özdemir stated that they can produce the cells providing this power and the packs formed with them within ASPİLSAN Enerji.

Stating that distance comes to the forefront in fixed-wing platforms and capacity gains importance here, Özdemir said that they offer customized solutions in the form of power or energy capacity according to the needs of the platforms.

Özdemir stated that they make designs at both cell and pack levels for thermal runaway (combustion, explosion) problems that may occur in batteries due to the heat generated when high power is drawn, and for current collector materials resistant to high temperatures.

New models are on the way for kamikaze drones

Stating that different battery types have advantages and disadvantages, Özdemir announced that they will launch new models developed for "disposable" kamikaze drones, where cycle life is not very important.

Özdemir expressed that their roadmap is primarily to offer solutions with increased energy density of their own cells and then to add new batteries to their product portfolio.

Stating that they have been in talks with drone manufacturers for about 2 years and have started to take part in their designs together for the last year, Özdemir expressed that the demands of the manufacturers are generally concentrated in terms of power.

Stating that ASPİLSAN Energy's cell energy density is already high enough, Özdemir noted they are developing new formulations to satisfy this requirement. The focus is on enhancing existing capabilities through advanced, newly developed chemical compositions.

“By utilizing our company’s capabilities, we are focusing on solutions that do not require high costs in the first stage and have a higher impact with simpler investments. In addition, we will make new investments to bring the entire spectrum required by all manufacturers here. Therefore, we are developing the capabilities of our facility in terms of mechanical and electrochemical formulations. Secondly, we are introducing new types of cells to our product portfolio with new investments.”

Stating that domestic battery products are already available for domestic drones, Özdemir said, “We aim to create a product portfolio that can meet the needs of all drone manufacturers in Türkiye. As of 2026, we target the usage of our products by all domestic drone manufacturers.”
