Signatures Signed on the “South Marmara Hydrogen Shore Platform” Guided Project

The contract signatures of the "South Marmara Hydrogen Coast Platform" Guided Project, which is co-financed by Eti Maden and Enerjisa Üretim with the grant support of the South Marmara Development Agency (GMKA) carrying out its activities under the coordination of the General Directorate of Development Agencies of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, were signed on March 15, 2023.

With the "South Marmara Hydrogen Coast" Valley Project, local and new contributions will be made to the Valley and the Hydrogen Economy of the Region after the 8 million EUR grant support entitled under the Horizon European Framework Program.

The First Domestic Green Hydrogen Plant of Türkiye with the Largest Capacity to be Installed in Bandırma Energy Base.

The project applicant is the General Directorate of Eti Mining Enterprises, and the project partners are Enerjisa Enerji Üretim A.Ş., Overseas Wind Energy Association, Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University and Sabancı University. With the project, Turkey's first domestic green hydrogen plant with the largest capacity will be established by TÜBİTAK MAM and ASPİLSAN Enerji at the Bandırma Energy Base. This pilot project, considered the first step aims to reach the capacity to develop the first domestic electrolyzer of Türkiye on the MW scale in a short time.

Region to Specialize in Offshore Renewable Power Plants and Hydrogen

Within the scope of the 24-month project, two significant feasibility studies will emerge. With the feasibility study of the "South Marmara Green Industrial Zone", which is planned to be brought to the Bandırma-Biga line, an important step will be taken for the planning and clean production-oriented development of the industry. South Marmara, which wants to be the training centre of Türkiye in the green transformation process, will be provided with a "Green Marine Industry R&D Test and Training Center" after the Renewable Energy Training Centers established at Balıkesir University and Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University with the Renewable Youth Energy (Re-YOU Operation) implemented with IPA funding and the region will be specialized in offshore renewable power plants and hydrogen. The feasibility study of the centre will be completed under the coordination of the Offshore Wind Energy Association, Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University and TÜBİTAK MAM.

The applications will set an example for the whole of Türkiye and will trigger larger studies on an industrial scale.

With the "South Marmara Hydrogen Shore Platform" project implemented with the largest co-financing rate among the guided projects funded by Development Agencies, the practices in Bandırma Energy Base aimed to be the first renewable energy park of Türkiye, are expected to set an example for the whole country and trigger larger studies on an industrial scale with these practices. Another significant step will be taken on this path, which aims to create the first hydrogen production and distribution centre of Türkiye. In 2053, it is aimed that the most significant initiative in the field of industry to achieve a net-zero position in terms of greenhouse gases will be the "South Marmara Hydrogen Coast Platform".

The work to establish the first green industrial zone of Türkiye from scratch in South Marmara and the formation of new industrial zones to obtain higher value-added products from the Boron mineral, whose importance will increase even more in the green transformation process, will further trigger synergy in this field.
