ASPİLSAN, THE RISING ENERGY OF TÜRKİYE, IS 43 YEARS OLD

ASPİLSAN Enerji, founded with contributions from philanthropic individuals and organizations from Kayseri to meet the battery cell, battery and energy needs of the Turkish Armed Forces, celebrate its 43rd anniversary.

On April 2, 1981, ASPİLSAN Enerji, whose foundations were laid in the Kayseri Organized Industrial Zone, has been tirelessly working for 43 years to meet the energy needs of our country.

ASPİLSAN Enerji, a subsidiary of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, meets the needs of both the defence industry and the private sector with domestically produced batteries from Türkiye's first lithium-ion battery production facility. Furthermore, it continues to work on the development of battery cells in various types, sizes, and technologies for future advancements, all while maintaining its commitment to domestic production.
ASPİLSAN Enerji General Manager Ahmet Turan Özdemir expressed: "Today, as the ASPİLSAN Enerji Family, we take pride in producing solutions that will reduce our country's dependency on external sources in the field of energy storage for a solid 43 years. In 2022, with the project-based state incentives published in the official gazette, ASPİLSAN Enerji established Türkiye's first lithium-ion battery production facility. Our first serial product, the lithium-ion rechargeable cylindrical A28 batteries, is being manufactured. The ASPİLSAN INR18650A28 battery cell stands out with its high discharge rate and ability to operate at low temperatures. The production of the lithium-ion rechargeable cylindrical A28 battery in our country will also significantly contribute to the advancement of our technologies in other fields."

Özdemir emphasized that ASPİLSAN Enerji closed the year with diversified production and new product exports, stating that their primary goal is to add new successes in exports. He said, "We are focused on the mission of becoming a battery manufacturer in Türkiye's region. Our A28 cell, crowned with international quality certifications, has become a product of interest in global markets. Türkiye, which has been importing lithium-ion batteries for years, has for the first time transitioned to an exporter position with the A28 cell. In line with this mission, ASPİLSAN Enerji collaborates with raw material producers, machinery manufacturers, universities, and researchers, not only in battery production but also in developing the battery ecosystem of our country tirelessly and actively."

Custom Battery Design to Meet Specific Needs

Özdemir highlighted that ASPİLSAN Enerji has a wide range of products in battery pack and Ni-Cd battery production, including radio batteries, aviation and helicopter batteries, and telecommunication batteries.

Özdemir stated that ASPİLSAN Enerji produces batteries for various sectors ranging from air and space platforms to maritime platforms. He commented, "We are delighted to mitigate import dependency and boost local production with our specially developed lithium-ion batteries for communication technologies. The first domestically produced lithium batteries tailored for the telecommunications sector, designed to contribute significantly to the country's economy and ensure uninterrupted communication during emergencies, are manufactured to be longer-lasting, high-performing, and lighter. These next-generation commercially available versions, which can be remotely managed, are extensively utilized by Türkiye's leading operators. ASPİLSAN Enerji has developed and produced a 48V 100Ah capacity battery specifically for telecommunication infrastructure. The design, software, and interface of this battery are domestic and locally manufactured. This battery is in high demand among GSM operators. With hardware and software developed entirely within ASPİLSAN Enerji, our battery has an update feature. Additionally, encrypted communication software developed is integrated into our battery, allowing users to access all data related to the battery through this communication system.

Looking at different markets and new products, we have made a significant market entry by localizing various rail system batteries. Moreover, we have commenced providing our initial products for different maritime platforms.

The Battery of KAAN Comes from ASPİLSAN Enerji

In the early 1990s, activities began within the scope of the CN-235 Casa Transport Aircraft Project, which later continued with the localization of the HERON battery and the customization of F-16 aircraft batteries. Following these endeavours, ASPİLSAN Enerji specialized in aviation batteries through intensive R&D and technology development activities. Particularly in recent years, ASPİLSAN Enerji has become a centre of excellence in aviation batteries, capable of designing and producing batteries for over 40 different types of aircraft, helicopters, and UAVs/UCAVs, catering to the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) and other institutions. With over 35 years of accumulated knowledge in the aviation sector, coupled with serious R&D efforts, ASPİLSAN Enerji occupies a unique and special position in the industry, given the high-security sensitivities inherent in the aviation sector.

ASPİLSAN Enerji, with its developed and produced battery power units, stands as a strategic institution capable of designing and producing advanced aviation batteries not only within Türkiye but also worldwide. As an EASA Part 21 holder, equivalent to the FAA, ASPİLSAN Enerji's quality system and flawless product delivery differentiate it from many aviation companies worldwide, highlighting an essential process.

As ASPİLSAN Enerji, the producer of the batteries for our country's fifth-generation multi-role combat aircraft KAAN, we can produce the battery and power requirements of critical projects in our defence industry domestically and nationally within the scope of our country's survival projects.

We Shape Our Future Projects with R&D Activities

At ASPİLSAN Enerji, we closely monitor innovative solutions and advanced technologies in our industry through three separate R&D centres located in Kayseri, Ankara, and Istanbul. In our R&D centres, we have made significant progress in high-tech battery design projects for ASELSAN, TUSAŞ, and Roketsan products. These batteries will make significant contributions to the domestic and national production of our country's critical defence systems.

In 2024, we also plan to expand our product range with innovative solutions.
