ASPİLSAN Enerji has completed 80 percent of the construction of the Turkey’s first lithium-ion battery production facility, which will be located near Kayseri.

ASPİLSAN Enerji, which was founded in Kayseri Organized Industrial Zone in 1981 with the help of the generous business people, strengthens the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) by manufacturing batteries and batteries specialized to the devices utilized according to the needs of the military forces.

With the batteries it produces now, the factory, which has improved with the investments it has made, gives power to practically all types of portable gadgets or wearable technological products offered worldwide.

TAF's radio, night vision system, jammer system, anti-tank system, and robotic system batteries, as well as mine scanning, bomb disposal, missile and guidance kit batteries, and anti-torpedo batteries, are all designed by ASPİLSAN.

According to ASPİLSAN, 80 percent of the construction in Turkey's first lithium-ion battery production facility, which has a closed area of 25 thousand square meters and was established in the Mimarsinan Organized Industrial Zone in October last year and will begin mass production in the near future, has been completed.

At the same time, the facility, which will mass-produce lithium-ion batteries in Europe, will meet the demands of both the defence industry and the private sector, and work on the creation of battery cells of various sorts, sizes, and technologies will continue in the future.

While ASPİLSAN, which carries out domestic manufacturing operations, is now solely reliant on foreign cell supply, with a fresh investment, it will become the region's only cell producer. When the mines utilized as raw materials, such as nickel, cobalt, and manganese, are provided from the country, the factory, which will cease foreign dependency in this regard, will provide totally domestic output. In 2022, the total number of employees at the production facility is scheduled to be 300, and in 2023, it will be 400.

ASPİLSAN will also aid in the development of "Turkey's Automobile."

The cylindrical battery will be the first to depart the factory, with a capacity of 2.8 ampere-hours and a voltage of 3.6 volts. The facility, which will be divided into three sections: electrode preparation, battery assembly, and forming lines, will have a 60-battery-per-minute capacity. Because they have a high C-rate, batteries that can operate at low temperatures can be employed in a wide range of battery systems (discharge rate). Cells with cylindrical cells, but with a higher capacity, can also be manufactured in the factory using the same machine methods.

It is planned to finish installing machine systems in the factory in January 2022, with an estimated cost of between 900 million and 1 billion 200 thousand liras, and to begin mass production in April 2022. When the second phase of the investment is completed, ASPLSAN, which is ready to contribute to Turkey's Automobile Enterprise Group (TOGG), will be able to make local batteries for TOGG.
